What can you do to fit your workouts into your day?

Getting your workout in will keep you energized and alive all day long. So how do you get it into your schedule?

As a busy business owner, husband, father, enterprise engineer for a large corporation, team leader, online business educator, and fitness enthusiast I find it difficult to make time for my workouts! Do you have the same problem?

Do you catch yourself on a very inconsistent schedule for eating healthy and exercising regularly? If so then re-adjusting your thought process before you make a schedule is likely the cure for you.

If you really want to feel energized… really alive you need to put being energized and full of life into the forefront of you mind.

Find things that modivate you. Here is one thing I did to get my energy going… While this is a bit embarrassing to admit one of the things I did was join an aerobic step class. Was the class hard? You bet! But what kept me going to it… well… um…

I’ll just have to say it, for better or worse it got me on a regular schedule. I went because it was a great chance to spend time in a room filled with lots of beautiful (sweaty) women. For me that was a motivator… I’m not single and am not looking to date or anything like that. I simply enjoyed the idea of spending an hour in a room full of beautiful women.

You of course should find your own motivation, perhaps it is people… do you like to socialize? Then find a partner who counts on you an do your best to support them… this will help you to keep your own goals while helping someone else.

Find the fire inside you and then make your workout and healthy eating schedule around that.

You can do this.

What is the Fastest, Quickest, Most Rapid Weight Loss methodology in the world? And, what the hell do light bulbs have to do with it?

Here is a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_diets"rel="nofollow" >list of diets wikipedia has compiled and the method I’m going to discuss is not on their hit list. It was a great secret known to only a handful of people prior to Tim Ferriss’s broadcast of it out the world (no, I didn’t know about it until I heard it from him).

Specifically Tim talks about:
How to Lose 20 lbs. of Fat in 30 Days… Without Doing Any Exercise and I think it is brilliant. No that isn’t why I put the light bulb there. There is nothing illuminating about thinking Tim is brilliant… but he is.

So what the heck is the light bulb about… well I’ll get to that in a bit. The core of Tim blog entry is to focus on simplicity of diet.

In order to stick with such a simple diet for 30 days one would need the following:

The food must taste good and not be sickeningly rich.

It would have to yield high levels of energy. So you can hit the gym, even though Tim says you don’t need to it is best if you do.

It would need to be easy to make.

It would need to be easy to store in the event of packing it for lunch at work.

It would need to make you feel full all the time… I hate being hungry for the sake of weight loss.

It would need to impact your body in a way that created some SERIOUS results.

So with all these things in mind I’ll share what we have discovered about this what Tim’s Slow Carb diet.

How do you eat, build muscle, have energy, and lose fat all at the same time?

It’s easy. Forget everything that you have associated with eating for weight loss in the past.

You need to eat to lose weight. Simple and Precise.

Starvation does not work. Go ahead and try it. You will be miserable, hungry, tired, and malnourished.

Who knows, you might even get scurvy.

Think Tom Hanks in CASTAWAY when he tried to escape his deserted isle and became lost at sea. He was too tired to swim after his best friend Wilson (you know, the volleyball with the bloodstained face) because he didn’t have any carbs in his diet. That and he looked like a wreck. Good tan, but still a wreck.

No carb, low carb, low calorie, or heck, maybe just go for no
calorie. WRONG.

Let’s talk about “slow carbs” and balanced diets.

You should eat and you should eat a lot.

But you have to eat the right kinds of food. You know that sugar causes weight gain. Sorry, sweets make you fat. I didn’t make that up. It just is. Yet sweets will be your reward after 6 days of healthy eating.

Yes, you can have your cake and eat it too.

It works like this. Eat 4-6 meals a day. Eat an equal portion of lean protein, vegetables and legumes. A portion consists of an amount the size of your fist. Not very scientific, but effective. Three fists of food 4-6 times a day leaves me well satisfied.

Proteins:
Egg whites with one whole egg for flavor
Chicken breast or thigh
Grass-fed organic beef
Pork

Legumes:
Lentils
Black beans
Pinto beans

Vegetables:
Spinach
Asparagus
Peas
Mixed vegetables

Pick an item from each category and you now have a well balanced meal. Keep it simple. If you give yourself to many options it becomes easy to stray. Variety adds confusion.

Here’s why it works. The legumes are your source for “slow carbs”. Legumes are full of fiber, which slows digestion. Slower digestion means being full for longer and continuous energy.

When carbohydrates are digested, they are turned into sugar that your body uses for energy. Too much sugar prompts a release of insulin, which then pulls the sugar from your blood stream and stores it in fat cells.

Insulin is like the maid cleaning your house. She cleans up the mess and then puts things away where you can’t find them. Insulin does the same. It sweeps up the sugar and then stores it away in the place where it is hardest for your body to use. In your fat cells.

Since slow carbs give you a continuous stream of energy into your system, you don’t get a sugar high and insulin isn’t being released to clean up the excess sugar. Now your metabolism will increase from it being consistently fed. Your body will always look for something to eat and it will begin to predict that food will be arriving soon.

When your metabolism begins picking up so will your energy. You will use more muscles in daily energized activities. That means that you will be depleting the energy stores in your muscles and for them to keep moving they will need to replace the energy. They will now begin attacking you’re fat cells as well as the food you are eating. Your body realizes that maintaining lean muscle is more important than storing fat and it will start to eat up these calorie reserves.

Go metabolism boosting, fat burning, muscle building power. And all this hard work isn’t without rewards. You get a cheat day once a week. Personally, I can’t mentally deprive myself of the guilty pleasure kind of foods for too long. So load up on sweets once a week or incorporate your cheat day to coincide with social events.

Not only does this provide you with a mental break from simple meal monotony, but it also provides a metabolic boost to your body. Over time, your body and metabolism start to adjust to the types of food and amount of calories that you are consuming. Throwing your body a weekly caloric curve ball will increase your fat loss by ensuring that your metabolism doesn’t get lazy. So make sure to over do it on your day off. It will keep your body guessing and that’s just what it needs to keep from getting complacent. Mixing things up works for everything. Mind, body, workplace and diet.

So what is the deal with the light bulbs?

They are simply to illustrate that you must THINK completely differently from the crowd. Tim Ferriss is a great example of marching to a different drummer.

So if thinking differently is going to cause such dramatic weight loss how do you go about focusing on it?

Just like the “Slow Carb” diet is completely different from the norm (It is very plane, has no variations, and has no variety) this is actually an acceptable mindset to be in, in order to have success.

So do a 180 degree turn on the way you think.

It is likely you don’t drink enough water. So be 100% different… drink a lot of water to drop the fat!

It is likely you eat tons of low quality carb based food, because it is cheap. So be 100% different… Seek high quality proteins, vegetables, and high quality carbs.

It is likely you only take supplements 1 time a day… So Be 100% different… do your body a favor and take them 3 times an day to be sure your body is getting everything it needs… it will use what it can in one sitting and eliminate the rest.

Is the point starting to hit home? Different… if you want to change your weight that begins by changing who you are at every level.
